Seiko Story: Seiko SKX007/009 - Why You Should Get One (Part I)

For a good quality watch with premium features at an affordable price, both the Seiko SKX007 and SKX009 are popular choices. Especially favored by divers, the iconic Seiko SKX is a sturdy timepiece with a pleasing aesthetic. When looking to add one to your watch collection, the only decision to be made is which model to choose from.

Technical specifications and benefits

The bezels and dials

The only difference between the SKX007 and SKX009 is the color of their bezels and dials. The SKX007 has a black bezel and dial while the SKX009 features a blue dial with a red and blue bezel, known as the ‘Pepsi’ bezel. While black may initially seem a bit bland, the dial takes on different hues under different light conditions. It appears dark gray with a slight purple tinge in full light, turning black as the light fades. If you have more conservative tastes, this is the one to suit you while the coloring also goes well with any outfit when you’re not underwater. The ‘Pepsi’ colors of the SKX009, on the other hand, are more eye-catching and are best if you want to be noticed.

Luminosity

The large markers for hours and distinct markers for minutes are easy to read when diving. Seiko’s LumiBrite feature – a luminous element that makes the handles and markers glow in the dark – ensures you keep track of time and your oxygen supply when in deeper water. Going back to the ‘Pepsi’ bezel, the red section highlights the critical time for your oxygen supply.

Case and other features

The stainless steel case has a chunky design with a 42 mm diameter and 13 mm thickness. This gives the design a sporty aesthetic and durability that’s well-suited to diving. It closely fits the bezel so it provides a comfortable fit despite the size. The glass is Seiko’s Hardlex, a scratch-resistant and shatterproof crystal that’s perfect for heavy-duty use, whether you’re hiking, diving, or playing sports. Water-resistant to 200 meters, the watch also features a 7s26 automatic movement and has a power reserve of 41 hours.

Choosing a strap for your Seiko SKX watch

The Seiko SKX lugs allow straps with a width of 22 mm to be attached and all you need to decide is which type you prefer. At Crafter Blue, we have two curved-end rubber straps that have been engineered for use with both models — the CB05 and the CB10. Made from pure vulcanized rubber, they are incredibly resistant and strong. Once you’ve decided which of the two styles you prefer, simply choose from the color selections and decide whether to stick with the stainless steel buckle or upgrade to PVD black or yellow gold.
